Jerusalem, Feb 25 (NationPress) Israeli military personnel have executed operations targeting Syrian army installations, resulting in the capture or destruction of various weaponry, as per an official statement from the Israeli military.
During these operations, members of the Paratroopers Brigade reportedly identified rifles, ammunition, and other military supplies abandoned by the previous Syrian regime forces. The military affirmed that all items discovered were either confiscated or dismantled.
The military disclosed that it has performed 'dozens' of similar operations since December, during which weaponry has been 'identified, seized, and dismantled.'
A commander from the 474th Brigade, whose identity remains undisclosed, stated in video evidence released by the military that the objective of these operations is 'to eradicate all the weaponry and capabilities' of the Syrian army.
'This is part of a series of actions where we have also identified rockets, explosives, and mines, as well as other types of explosive devices, along with tanks and armored vehicles that we dismantled,' he explained.
This announcement followed a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who asserted that Israeli forces would sustain an 'indefinite' presence at the summit of Mount Hermon and within the buffer zone along the Syrian border. He also advocated for the demilitarization of the area south of Damascus, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
In December of the previous year, after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Israel deployed ground units into the buffer zone, a demilitarized region situated between the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights and Syria.
The buffer zone is overseen by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, established under the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement. In spite of international outcry, Israel later seized what it refers to as 'strategic points' in the Syrian-controlled territory of Mount Hermon, asserting that the action is intended to safeguard Israeli civilians.
