Jerusalem, Jan 22 (NationPress) Israel has extended its military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin into a second day, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 individuals, according to the military's report on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Palestinian sources stated that Israeli forces also caused injuries to numerous others.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced in a statement that since the initiation of the operation on Tuesday, Israeli troops have killed "more than 10" individuals, all identified as militants.
"Furthermore, aerial assaults on terror infrastructure were executed, and a number of explosives placed along routes by the terrorists were neutralized," the statement detailed.
The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the operation has led to the deaths of at least nine people and injured around 40 others.
Israeli forces have also dismantled infrastructure and bulldozed roadways in the Al-Hadaf neighborhood of Jenin, with drones targeting an unoccupied vehicle in the Jenin refugee camp and Apache helicopters conducting aerial fire above the camp, as reported by Xinhua through Wafa.
On the same day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz indicated that the operation marks a transformation in the IDF's "security strategy" concerning the West Bank.
In a statement from his office, Katz implied that the operation would be extensive and conclusive. "A rigorous effort to eliminate terrorists and their infrastructure in the (Jenin) camp—ensuring that terrorism does not re-emerge after the operation concludes—is a vital lesson learned from the frequent raids in Gaza," he stated.
Katz mentioned visiting the IDF command center on Tuesday to monitor the operation's advancement and reaffirm the policy.
The operation, which commenced on Tuesday, involves the IDF, Shin Bet security agency, and Border Police, and is referred to as 'Iron Wall'.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Tuesday that the mission aims to "eliminate terrorism" in Jenin, asserting that Iran is behind militant activities against Israel in the city.
