Ramallah, Jan 23 (NationPress) Two Palestinians lost their lives during an Israeli military operation in Burqin, located to the west of Jenin city in the northern West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry on Thursday.

The ministry named the deceased as 30-year-old Qutaiba Shalabi and 25-year-old Mohammed Nazzal.

Sources from Jenin reported that Israeli forces encircled a residence in Burqin on Wednesday night, utilizing loudspeakers to urge those inside to surrender.

The forces launched several portable rockets at the house before subsequently demolishing it using a bulldozer, the sources indicated.

In a statement, the Israeli army mentioned that during their operation, in conjunction with the Shin Bet security agency, their forces eliminated two members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement who were implicated in an attack on January 6 in the village of Al Funduq, east of Qalqilya, which resulted in the deaths of three Israelis and injuries to six others.

Additionally, the Israeli forces apprehended several individuals believed to be connected to the attack, noting that an Israeli soldier incurred moderate injuries during the operation and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The Israeli army has been executing a significant military operation known as 'Iron Wall' in Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp for the third consecutive day, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

On Wednesday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the operation signifies a transformation in the IDF's 'security strategy' in the West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned on Tuesday that the operation's goal is to 'eradicate terrorism' in Jenin and accused Iran of being behind anti-Israeli militant activities in the area.

This operation follows Israel's cessation of fighting in Gaza on Sunday as a truce agreement came into effect. Nonetheless, violence has surged in the West Bank, highlighted by the raid in Jenin and a series of settler assaults on Palestinian villages.
