Jerusalem, Feb 9 (NationPress) Israeli forces have escalated their military campaign in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, initiating a raid in the Nur Shams refugee camp, according to a military spokesperson.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that substantial forces from the IDF, the Shin Bet security agency, and the Border Police started operations overnight in Nur Shams, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Eyewitnesses indicated that Israeli troops compelled multiple families to vacate their residences in the camp, transforming them into military outposts.

This military operation saw a significant deployment of Israeli forces, supplemented with bulldozers, which entered the camp and imposed a blockade, as per reports.

Witnesses noted that bulldozers began dismantling the entrance to the al-Maslakh neighborhood within the camp.

Tulkarem Governor Abdullah Kamil confirmed the Israeli raid on the camp and urged for international intervention to halt what he described as the "unprecedented aggression" in the region.

Kamil reported that emergency medical teams were being obstructed from reaching the injured in the camp, further deteriorating the humanitarian crisis.

Nihad Shawish, a local activist, stated that over 150 families had been forced to abandon their homes under Israeli threats, with soldiers repurposing their residences into military positions.

Shawish highlighted that the camp is now encircled by the Israeli army, which has positioned snipers throughout the area.

He claimed that the army had informed displaced families that they would not be permitted to return for a minimum of two weeks.

The Israeli army stated that the operation was aimed at addressing what they termed “disruptive activities” within the camp.

Situated in the Tulkarm Governorate in the northwestern West Bank, the camp has been a focal point for recent military actions.

The military reported that its forces shot several militants and apprehended additional individuals.

The Palestinian Health Ministry conveyed that a pregnant woman was killed by Israeli gunfire, while the Red Crescent reported two other individuals were shot and severely injured.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the operation was intended to "crush terror infrastructures" in the West Bank.

The Israeli military commenced a significant operation in Jenin on January 21 and extended it last week to the town of Tamun, located southeast of Jenin.
