Munich, Feb 16 (IANS) External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar convened with Israeli Finance Minister Gideon Saar during the Munich Security Conference 2025 to deliberate on bilateral relations and the current situation in West Asia.

“It was a pleasure to meet FM Gideon Saar of Israel on the sidelines of #MSC2025. We exchanged insights on the ongoing situation in West Asia and emphasized the strength and importance of our bilateral partnership,” EAM Jaishankar shared in a post on X.

Additionally, EAM Jaishankar met with Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, expressing that it’s always rewarding to hear Rabuka’s perspectives. The two leaders shared a warm handshake and greeting.

“An honor to meet PM & FM @slrabuka of Fiji this evening. It’s always a pleasure to hear his memories, perspectives, and insights,” Jaishankar posted on X.

Previously, in May 2023, Jaishankar and the then Foreign Minister of Israel, Eli Cohen, engaged in bilateral discussions covering diverse areas of cooperation, including connectivity, mobility, and academic as well as scientific research.

On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day in 2024, PM Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to PM Modi, extending heartfelt wishes. The two leaders addressed the evolving circumstances in West Asia. During their call, PM Modi stressed the necessity of de-escalating tensions.

He reiterated India’s demand for the immediate release of all hostages and highlighted the importance of ongoing humanitarian assistance for those affected. The leaders also discussed various facets of bilateral cooperation and strategies to enhance the India-Israel Strategic Partnership.

Since establishing full diplomatic ties in 1992, the relationship between India and Israel has flourished across economic, military, agricultural, and political dimensions.
