New Delhi, Aug 16 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar held discussions with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in New Delhi, recognizing the growing partnership and collaborative efforts between India and South Korea as they celebrated a decade of their Special Strategic Partnership.
In their meeting, both leaders explored avenues to enhance bilateral collaboration across several sectors.
“I was pleased to meet FM Cho Hyun this morning. Our discussions were fruitful in advancing our bilateral cooperation in trade, manufacturing, maritime relations, and people-to-people exchanges. We also identified new opportunities in AI, semiconductors, clean energy, and defence,” EAM Jaishankar shared on X.
“We also exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific region and current global events. I appreciated the deepening ties and increasing collaboration as we celebrate 10 years of our Special Strategic Partnership,” he added.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), highlighted the ongoing strength and future-oriented nature of the Special Strategic Partnership between India and South Korea, welcoming Hyun upon his arrival in New Delhi on Friday evening for his inaugural visit to India.
On X, Jaiswal remarked, “A warm welcome to FM Cho Hyun of the Republic of Korea as he arrives in New Delhi for his maiden visit. The India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership remains strong and focused on the future.”
During this visit, both nations aim to enhance exchanges and cooperation, as emphasized by South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, Lee Jaewoong, on Thursday.
“Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun will conduct a bilateral visit to India from August 15 to 17. During his stay, he will engage in numerous key activities, including a meeting with EAM Jaishankar,” Lee Jaewoong informed reporters during a media briefing in Seoul.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership, and both sides will deliberate on enhancing exchanges and collaboration to deepen bilateral relations,” he mentioned.
The South Korean Foreign Minister previously spoke with EAM Jaishankar via telephone on July 28 to discuss Korea-India relations and practical cooperation.
“Minister Cho reaffirmed the Korean government's commitment to enhancing bilateral ties, a point he previously made during the bilateral summit on June 17 at the G7 Summit in Canada and during the Presidential Delegation's visit to India from July 16-18. He also advocated for revitalizing high-level exchanges and ongoing efforts for mutually beneficial cooperation,” a statement from Seoul following the phone call read.
