Kenya Rescinds Ban on Raw Macadamia Exports

Nairobi, Dec 4 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Kenya granted permission for the sale and export of raw macadamia nuts for a duration of 30 days, officially lifting a ban that had been put in place earlier last month.
According to Andrew Karanja, the cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, officials from the Agriculture and Food Authority, which oversees the crop sector, have identified macadamia stocks held by various licensed processors and exporters that need to be sold urgently, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
"This intervention will facilitate the clearance of verified stocks held by different exporters for export," Karanja mentioned in a statement issued from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
He added that this directive would permit the export of raw (in-shell) macadamia nuts for 30 days starting from Wednesday.
As per the World Macadamia Organisation, Kenya ranks as the third largest exporter of nut-in-shell and kernel macadamia, following South Africa and Australia.
