King Charles III Revokes CBE Honour from British Indian Lord Rami Ranger

London, Dec 7 (NationPress) King Charles III has officially revoked the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) honour awarded to Raminder Singh Ranger, a British businessman and Indian-origin member of the House of Lords, for an alleged violation of the parliamentary Code of Conduct concerning bullying and harassment, according to an official statement released on Saturday.
Known as Lord Rami Ranger, he is the founder of Sun Mark, a UK-based FMCG company, and Sea Air and Land Forwarding, an international marketing and distribution firm. He lost his CBE honour on Friday after reportedly bringing the honours system into disrepute.
A spokesperson for the Conservative Party peer described the decision as “unjust” and confirmed that Ranger intends to challenge the annulment.
The spokesperson expressed concerns about the “lack of transparency and the high level of secrecy” surrounding the process, stating, “Lord Ranger has not committed any crime nor has he broken any law, unlike many others who have had their honours revoked.”
Lord Rami Ranger received the CBE for his contributions to British business and the Asian community from the late Queen Elizabeth II in the New Year’s Honours list of December 2015.
While the Forfeiture Committee of the UK Cabinet Office does not disclose its reasons for recommendations, this decision follows a Lords investigation that concluded last year, citing Ranger's breach of the parliamentary Code of Conduct related to “bullying and harassment.”
The official public notice in ‘The London Gazette’ states, “The King has directed that the appointment of Raminder Singh, Baron Ranger to be a Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated December 31, 2015, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”
According to Cabinet Office guidelines, an honour can be revoked if an individual is found guilty of a criminal offense, faces censure from a regulatory or professional body, or engages in any conduct that undermines the honours system.
The spokesperson for the Conservative Party peer remarked, “Lord Ranger is devastated that the CBE awarded to him for his contributions to British business and community cohesion has been rescinded.” They noted that the Forfeiture Committee re-evaluated issues previously addressed, for which Lord Ranger had already apologized, undertaken rehabilitative training, and removed himself from social media.
Furthermore, the spokesperson indicated that Lord Ranger is exploring all legal avenues available to challenge this decision and to clear his name both in the UK and internationally, asserting that he was a deserving recipient of the CBE and that the manner of its revocation is shameful.
Earlier, Ranger was subjected to a Code of Conduct investigation by the Commissioner for Standards within the House of Lords following a Diwali-related event held at the Houses of Parliament in London in October 2022.
