Kerala High Court to Review Jeweller's Bail Request in Actress Harassment Case on Tuesday

Kochi, Jan 10 (NationPress) A day after a lower court rejected bail for jewellery tycoon Boby Chemmanur, the Kerala High Court on Friday expressed doubts about the urgency of his bail request and scheduled the hearing for Tuesday, January 14.
On Thursday, Chemmanur was placed in 14 days of judicial custody related to an actress harassment case and was subsequently moved to a jail in Kochi.
In an urgent petition submitted on Friday morning, Chemmanur's attorney contended that the lower court had not adequately assessed the circumstances of the case, warranting an appeal to the High Court. Nonetheless, the High Court underscored the necessity of adhering to procedural norms, indicating that the state government and police should be consulted prior to any resolution. Notices were dispatched, and the case was postponed to Tuesday.
The court also reprimanded Chemmanur for his public comments, warning that such statements could negatively impact others and should be avoided. Despite his counsel's assurances that this behavior would be curtailed, the court maintained its decision to postpone the hearing.
Consequently, Chemmanur will remain in custody until Tuesday.
The issue ignited when acclaimed Malayalam actress Honey Rose accused Chemmanur of employing derogatory language against her during an incident that transpired four months prior. Rose publicly shared the incident on social media earlier this week, announcing her intention to file a police complaint. She also cautioned that she might expand her complaint to include Chemmanur's close associates if deemed necessary.
Her original post, which did not explicitly mention Chemmanur, incited widespread cyber aggression against her. In response, authorities have arrested approximately two dozen individuals linked to these attacks.
Chemmanur was apprehended by the Kerala Police at his Wayanad resort on Wednesday morning following Rose's allegations. He was later transported to Kochi that evening, interrogated, and formally arrested by local authorities.
On Thursday, an extensive hearing at the lower court concluded with the denial of Chemmanur's bail application.
Honey Rose, who debuted in the 2005 Malayalam film ‘Boyy Friennd’, gained significant fame with the 2012 film ‘Trivandrum Lodge’. Today, she stands out as a prominent figure within the entertainment sector, especially during public events.
Chemmanur, chairperson of Chemmanur International Group, is recognized as a notable businessman and philanthropist. He gained notoriety for bringing the late football icon Diego Maradona to Kerala in 2012 and for orchestrating a record-setting 812 km marathon in 2014 to advocate for blood donation. This initiative culminated in the creation of the world's largest blood bank, facilitating around 1.4 million blood donations.
The current accusations have cast a pall over Chemmanur’s esteemed reputation, which he has cultivated over decades through high-profile projects and humanitarian efforts.
