Boby Chemmanur Denied Bail in Honey Rose Harassment Case, Faces 14 Days of Judicial Custody

Kochi, Jan 9 (NationPress) A court in Kerala's Kochi on Thursday refused bail to jewellery tycoon Boby Chemmanur, who has been in police detention for approximately 30 hours, and placed him in 14 days of judicial custody concerning the actress harassment case.

Popular Malayalam actress Honey Rose accused Chemmanur of employing derogatory remarks against her, an event she reported had taken place four months prior.

Following the court's announcement, he informed the court of his high blood pressure and was instructed to rest within the courtroom.

Chemmanur is expected to receive medical care and may be transferred to a state-run hospital nearby.

Chemmanur was apprehended by the Kerala Police at his resort in Wayanad on Wednesday morning after Rose lodged a complaint.

Subsequently, he was transported to Kochi in the late evening, where he was interrogated, and his arrest was documented by the Kochi police.

On Wednesday night, he spent the night at the police station, and on Thursday, when the local court resumed its session, his bail application was reviewed. After an extensive hearing, the court delayed its decision.

During the hearing, Chemmanur's attorney asserted his innocence, arguing that if found guilty, the charges could result in a sentence of three years, thus requesting bail. However, the prosecution firmly contested this. When the court delivered its ruling just before the end of the working day, Chemmanur was ordered to jail.

In response to the ruling, Rose stated that she wishes for the law to proceed as intended.

In the meantime, Chemmanur's legal team has resolved to challenge the lower court's decision, with plans to submit an appeal to the High Court on Friday morning, as the police did not request his custody.

On Tuesday, Rose publicly announced her intention to file a police complaint, characterizing the incident as deeply unsettling for her and her family. She shared her experience on social media, where she also cautioned Chemmanur that she would extend her complaint to his close associates if necessary.

Previously, Rose had recounted the incident on social media without mentioning Chemmanur by name, which led to increased cyber harassment directed at her.

Since then, police have detained around two dozen individuals involved in these attacks.

The actress, who debuted in the 2005 Malayalam film "Boyy Friennd", gained significant acclaim with the 2012 film "Trivandrum Lodge". She is currently a highly sought-after figure in the entertainment sector, especially for public appearances.

Chemmanur is the chairman of the Chemmanur International Group, a vast business conglomerate. He is renowned for his connection with the late football legend Diego Maradona, whom he brought to Kerala in 2012. Chemmanur has frequently made news for his unconventional endeavors, including a record-setting 812 km marathon in April 2014, aimed at promoting blood donation awareness. This initiative resulted in the establishment of the world’s largest blood bank, motivating approximately 1.4 million blood donations.

As the investigation progresses, the allegations have tarnished Chemmanur's reputation, which he has cultivated over decades through various high-profile activities and philanthropic initiatives.
