Kochi, Jan 14 (NationPress) After spending six days in confinement, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday granted bail to jewellery tycoon Boby Chemmanur concerning the harassment case involving an actress.
The court verbally agreed to the bail after the police indicated they did not require his continued detention.
The prosecution urged the court to impose strict conditions for his release. However, the court stated that a detailed ruling would be provided at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
On January 9, after Chemmanur was placed under 14 days of judicial custody by a lower court, he filed a bail application the following day. The Kerala High Court questioned the urgency of his plea and scheduled the case for Tuesday (January 14).
During the proceedings, the court reprimanded Chemmanur for his public remarks, warning that such statements could negatively impact others and should be avoided. The court also showcased footage of his terse remarks during the session on Tuesday.
The incident originated when renowned Malayalam actress Honey Rose accused Chemmanur of making offensive comments towards her four months ago.
Rose brought the issue to public attention on social media earlier this week, announcing her decision to file a police report. She also cautioned that she might extend her complaint to Chemmanur’s close associates if necessary. Her initial post, which did not explicitly name Chemmanur, prompted a wave of cyber harassment against her.
In response, authorities have arrested approximately two dozen individuals linked to these attacks. Chemmanur was apprehended by the Kerala Police at his Wayanad resort on January 8 following Rose’s complaint. He was subsequently transported to Kochi for interrogation and formal arrest by local authorities.
Honey Rose, who debuted in the 2005 Malayalam film Boyy Friennd, gained fame with the 2012 film Trivandrum Lodge.
A significant personality in the entertainment industry, she frequently appears at public events.
Chemmanur, the chairman of Chemmanur International Group, is a prominent businessman and philanthropist. He is known for bringing late football legend Diego Maradona to Kerala in 2012 and organizing a record-setting 812 km marathon in 2014 to promote blood donation. Although the current allegations have tarnished Chemmanur’s long-standing reputation, established through years of high-profile initiatives and charitable work, his business remains robust, with new showrooms opening in several locations.
