Seoul, May 21 (NationPress) South Korea's Democratic Party (DP) presidential hopeful Lee Jae-myung criticized former President Yoon Suk Yeol for his presence at a screening of a documentary addressing alleged election fraud. Yoon, who was removed from office due to his unsuccessful martial law attempt and faces criminal charges for insurrection, has suggested that claims of election fraud influenced his decision to declare martial law.
Having departed from the conservative People Power Party (PPP) last week, Yoon made his first public appearance since his ousting on April 4, aside from attending his trial, with the presidential election looming just under two weeks away.
"Did he not secure his own election through that system?" Lee posed to reporters during a campaign event in Incheon, questioning the rationale behind the accusations of election fraud.
"If he asserts that the system was flawed, what does that imply about his own victory?" Lee continued.
As the leading candidate in the race, Lee narrowly lost to Yoon in the 2022 presidential election.
When questioned about the PPP's recent attempts to distance itself from Yoon, Lee responded, "On February 16, I predicted the PPP would distance itself from Yoon within 100 days, and it has transpired."
