Macron Announced He Will Appoint New Prime Minister Soon

Paris, Dec 6 (NationPress) French President Emmanuel Macron has declared that he will appoint a new Prime Minister in the coming days to succeed Michel Barnier, who was dismissed due to a no-confidence vote that occurred the previous day.

"I will appoint a new Prime Minister within the coming days. I will direct him to establish a government of general interest that represents all political factions," Macron stated during a national address on Thursday evening, just 24 hours after the unprecedented no-confidence vote, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This vote signifies a major political crisis in France, resulting in a Prime Minister stepping down for the first time since 1962, and marking Barnier's administration as the first to succumb to such a motion in over sixty years.

On Thursday morning, Barnier officially handed in his resignation to Macron. Until a new government is formed, Macron has assigned Barnier to lead a caretaker administration to oversee day-to-day operations, according to a press statement from the Elysee Palace.

Furthermore, in his address, Macron reiterated his dedication to the presidency, despite pressures from a left-wing coalition demanding his resignation.

"The mandate you have granted me is for five years, and I intend to fulfill it until the very end," he remarked.

Looking forward, Macron mentioned that the new government will introduce a revised budget "at the start of next year".

He also noted that a special legislative proposal would be presented in Parliament to extend the terms of the 2024 budget into 2025, ensuring the continuity of public services.

With less than a month left to finalize the 2025 national budget and the collapse of Barnier's government, the urgency to resolve the political impasse has grown significantly.
