French Prime Minister Michel Barnier Resigns Following No-Confidence Vote

Paris, Dec 5 (NationPress) French Prime Minister Michel Barnier arrived at the Elysee Palace on Thursday to submit his government's resignation to President Emmanuel Macron after the government was ousted by a parliamentary no-confidence vote just a day prior.
On Wednesday evening, a total of 331 deputies from the French National Assembly, primarily from the left-wing coalition New Popular Front and the far-right National Rally, voted in favor of the no-confidence motion, compelling Barnier to resign and leading to the collapse of his government.
With no majority in the National Assembly, Barnier had to push through a social security budget for 2025 without a vote on Monday, which ultimately provoked the parliamentary censure, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Having been appointed just three months ago, Barnier could be recognized as the most short-lived prime minister in French history. Prior to his tenure, parliamentary censure was only invoked in 1962 against Georges Pompidou's government.
