Members of the Indian diaspora in Nice, France expressed excitement on Saturday, 13 June ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival, saying the visit filled them with pride and that the standing of Indians in France had grown significantly under his leadership. The mood among the community reflected both personal anticipation and a broader sense of India's rising global profile.

Speaking to reporters, one member of the Indian community said: 'I am feeling very happy that the Indian Prime Minister is coming to Nice. It is a matter of pride for all of us.'

Shubham, who works as a chef in a Nice restaurant and has lived in the city for two years, said he was 'very happy' about the Prime Minister's visit. 'India's relationship with foreign countries is very good,' he noted, adding that Modi's overseas trips had helped strengthen bilateral ties across the world.

'Because of PM Modi's foreign visits, relations between countries have improved. The respect for Indians has increased. Earlier, many people did not know much about India, but today, people know about us and want to learn more about our country. Indians here receive good facilities, including medical and educational support,' Shubham said. He added that it would be the first time he would see Modi in person: 'It is our good fortune.'

Another diaspora member expressed regret at being unable to attend due to work commitments but said he was nonetheless 'very happy' about the visit. A third community member, originally from Kolkata, said: 'I feel very proud because I am from India. PM Modi is working for the country's progress.'

What Modi's France Schedule Covers

At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to Nice on 13–14 June, before travelling to Evian and Paris from 16–19 June. Bilateral talks between Modi and Macron are scheduled for 14 June in Nice, during which the two leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of the India–France relationship.

Defence cooperation is expected to feature prominently in the discussions, with India seeking to strengthen its military capabilities amid rising strategic competition in key maritime regions.

Slovakia Visit: A Historic First

From 14–16 June, Modi will travel to Slovakia for a state visit at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. This will mark the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993 — a milestone that underscores India's expanding diplomatic footprint in Central Europe.
