New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be participating in the General Debate at the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as indicated by the updated provisional list of speakers released for the high-level session scheduled for later this month.
The 80th session of the UNGA is set to commence on September 9, marking a significant milestone as the UN commemorates its 80th anniversary.
The primary theme for this session is 'Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.'
A special commemorative meeting is planned for September 22 to honor this anniversary.
The General Debate will occur from September 23 to 29, with Brazil traditionally addressing first, followed by the United States.
According to the latest list of speakers, India will now be represented by a minister instead of the Prime Minister. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is anticipated to speak at the General Assembly on September 27.
Initially, a provisional list of speakers released in July had scheduled Prime Minister Modi to present India's address on September 26.
On that same day, the leaders of Israel, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are set to speak during the high-level debate.
The UNGA has noted that the list of speakers is provisional and may undergo changes as the session date approaches.
Adjustments in schedules and speaker lists are routine leading up to the high-level week, and updates will be reflected accordingly.
