United Nations, Aug 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to engage in the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26, as outlined in the preliminary agenda.
This year marks a significant milestone for the UN as it celebrates its 80th anniversary, with the General Assembly's theme being "Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights".
A commemorative high-level meeting is slated for September 22 to honor this anniversary.
The subsequent day will kick off the standard high-level sessions, traditionally commencing with an address by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Following him will be the address from US President Donald Trump.
Notably, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China will be absent from this high-level gathering.
Among the notable speakers are Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, and Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran.
PM Modi's address is scheduled for the morning session on September 26, starting at 9 a.m. (6:30 p.m. IST), and will be preceded by Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Li Qiang of China, and Keir Starmer of Britain.
Later in that session, Prime Ministers Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, K.P. Sharma Oli of Nepal, and Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan will follow.
The last speaker of the morning session is expected to be Bangladesh's premier, likely Muhammad Yunus, who identifies himself as the Chief Advisor to the caretaker government established after the ousting of the elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
This marks PM Modi's seventh address at the high-level UNGA session.
