New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a visit to Mauritius on March 11-12, where he will serve as the guest of honour at the 57th National Day celebrations, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.

"PM Modi's visit to Mauritius on March 11 and 12 will coincide with the National Day festivities on March 12, where he will be the Chief Guest. An Indian defence forces contingent will join the celebrations, along with a ship from the Indian Navy. This marks the Prime Minister's first visit to Mauritius since 2015. During this trip, he plans to meet with the President of Mauritius, engage with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, and hold discussions with several other prominent figures and senior leaders from the nation," stated MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a regular media briefing in New Delhi.

Last month, Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam informed the parliament about PM Modi's upcoming visit.

"In honor of the 57th anniversary of our country's independence, I am pleased to announce that following my invitation, His Excellency, Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has graciously accepted to be the Guest of Honour for our National Day celebrations," Ramgoolam stated in parliament.

"It is a unique privilege for our nation to host such a distinguished individual who has made time for us despite his busy schedule and recent visits to Paris and the United States. His presence as our special guest is a testament to the strong ties between our two countries," the Mauritius PM further elaborated.

PM Modi has emphasized New Delhi's steadfast commitment to its special and enduring partnership with Mauritius, describing it as ‘special’ and ‘unique’.

In July 2024, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar visited Mauritius for two days, making it one of his first international trips in his current term, where he engaged in comprehensive discussions with both then PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Ramgoolam on various facets of bilateral relations, such as development partnership, defence and maritime cooperation, economic and trade relationships, and community connections.

The EAM, accompanied by the then Prime Minister of Mauritius, inaugurated High Impact Community Development Projects, exchanged MoUs, and presented the first Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to two seventh-generation Indian-origin Mauritians.

A total of 12 community development projects, focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, public services, and sports, were virtually inaugurated during Jaishankar's Mauritius visit.

Jaishankar also reaffirmed India's unwavering support to Mauritius in its pursuit of growth and prosperity.
