Port Moresby, Sep 16 (NationPress) Minister of State for External Affairs (MoS) Pabitra Margherita convened a meeting on Tuesday with prominent business leaders of Papua New Guinea to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral trade relations.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, Margherita expressed, "Had fruitful and interactive discussions with key business figures in Papua New Guinea, including essential Indian entrepreneurs in the nation's textile industry. We examined strategies to further bolster our trade connections."
Earlier that day, Margherita also engaged with members of the Indian community in Papua New Guinea, referring to them as a "living bridge" between the two countries. He praised their contributions to fostering stronger ties.
"An inspiring evening spent with our dynamic Indian community in Papua New Guinea. With over 4,000 members, they serve as a living bridge between India and PNG, significantly contributing to our partnership through cultural, economic, and community initiatives," Margherita noted on X.
On the previous day, Margherita had met with Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape, extending greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian populace on the occasion of the country’s 50th Independence anniversary. He affirmed both nations’ dedication to strengthening bilateral and people-to-people relationships.

Margherita arrived in Port Moresby on Monday for an official visit to Papua New Guinea, where he is representing PM Modi at the events commemorating Papua New Guinea's 50th Independence anniversary.
During this visit, MoS Margherita is anticipated to have bilateral discussions with Papua New Guinea’s political leaders, as per a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
"In the wake of the landmark 3rd Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) convened by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in May 2023 in Port Moresby, this visit by MoS to Papua New Guinea represents a chance to further our engagement with the leadership in Pacific Island Countries (PICs)," the MEA stated.
