Wellington, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Christopher Luxon, executed a cabinet reshuffle on Sunday aimed at enhancing economic growth and the health sector.

This marks Luxon's first significant cabinet alteration since he assumed office over a year ago, with the intention of propelling economic growth by 2025 and focusing on unlocking opportunities that would improve the lives of citizens, stimulate business prospects, and enable Kiwis to access top-tier health and education, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Highlighting the economy's positive trajectory last year, including declining inflation and reduced interest rates, Luxon announced that Finance Minister Nicola Willis would also take on the role of minister for economic growth, previously known as the economic development portfolio.

Willis will spearhead the government's strategy aimed at unlocking the potential of New Zealand’s businesses to expand, cultivate talent, and draw investment, Luxon stated.

In terms of health, Simeon Brown will take over as the new minister of health, succeeding Shane Reti, who will now oversee New Zealand's universities and the science sector, also a component of the national economic growth strategy.

Chris Bishop has been appointed as the minister of transport, and Louise Upston will manage tourism and hospitality. Judith Collins has taken on the role of minister for the public service, while Mark Mitchell has been assigned the sport, recreation, and ethnic communities portfolios. Simon Watts will now oversee the energy and local government sectors.

Chris Penk has been designated as the small business and manufacturing minister, and Andrew Bayly will serve as the minister for the Accident Compensation Corporation.

James Meager has received a promotion to minister for hunting, fishing, and youth, and will also serve as the minister for the South Island—a newly established position. Additionally, Meager will act as an associate minister of transport, according to the Prime Minister.
