Phnom Penh, July 7 (NationPress) Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita engaged in discussions with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen on Monday, focusing on enhancing the partnership between India and Cambodia across various sectors and addressing mutual concerns.
He arrived in Cambodia on Sunday, with the goal of boosting collaboration between India and the Southeast Asian nation through productive engagements.
"Had the honor to meet with Hun Sen, the President of the Senate of Cambodia. We acknowledged our special and close ties between India and Cambodia. I thanked him for the insightful exchange regarding our strong development partnership across diverse sectors and tackling common challenges," Margherita shared on X.
During his visit, the MoS also connected with the Indian community on Sunday and lauded their contributions towards reinforcing India-Cambodia relations.
He recognized their significant role as bridges between the rich cultures, traditions, and values of both nations.
The MoS informed them about India's transformational progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, Margherita engaged in discussions with alumni from the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in Cambodia.
"Had an inspiring interaction with ITEC & ICCR alumni in Cambodia, along with Cambodian dignitaries and the President of the Cambodia-India Alumni Association. It’s uplifting to witness how India’s capacity-building partnerships are contributing to Cambodia’s developmental journey," he stated in a post on X.
Margherita also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, reflecting on his lasting legacy of peace and non-violence.
Earlier, emphasizing the strong relations between India and Cambodia, the Ministry of External Affairs noted that the ties are "grounded in shared civilizational heritage and a substantial, people-focused development partnership."
"This visit will further strengthen our bilateral relations and present an opportunity for both nations to discuss advancements in initiatives and issues of mutual interest across various sectors. MoS will also meet with senior Cambodian leaders and engage with ITEC/ICCR alumni and the Indian community. He will review the extensive restoration and conservation efforts by India at World Heritage Sites in Cambodia, which symbolize our shared culture," read a statement from the MEA prior to the Union Minister's visit.
