Islamabad, Jan 7 (NationPress) Tragically, five individuals lost their lives, and 24 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine near Talagang in Punjab, Pakistan on Wednesday, as reported by local media citing Rescue 1122.
The unfortunate event occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2:15 am (local time), according to rescue officials.
According to Qazi Muhammad Akram, spokesperson for Chakwal Rescue 1122, the bus was en route from Rawalpindi to Bahawalpur, as detailed by Pakistan's prominent daily Dawn.
He noted that the driver opted for an alternate route due to the motorway being closed off because of fog.
While passing near Dhoke Pathan village, situated along the banks of the Sowaan River, the driver lost control, resulting in the bus tumbling into a ravine that was 100 feet deep. Five passengers, including the bus driver, died at the scene, and 24 others were injured. Rescue 1122 personnel promptly responded to the incident location after receiving alerts regarding the accident.
On December 31, 2025, a tragic accident on the Jhang-Faisalabad road resulted in the deaths of over 14 passengers and injuries to 16 others after a bus and a van collided. The death toll rose to 17 in the subsequent days as more victims succumbed to their injuries.
