Quetta, Nov 13 (NationPress) The authorities in Pakistan have once again suspended mobile internet services for a duration of three days across multiple districts in Balochistan, including Quetta and Chaman, due to ongoing security concerns. This interruption is causing significant disruptions to communication, business operations, and the daily routines of the local population, as reported by local media on Thursday.
The suspension of mobile data services in Quetta is labeled as a part of "precautionary measures". Disruptions have also been noted in the suburbs of Chaman, according to official reports from Samaa TV.
The Balochistan Home Department has confirmed that mobile internet services will be halted in various districts for three days, emphasizing that the decision was made in light of the current law and order situation. However, no formal notification regarding this decision has been released as of now.
Residents are expressing their struggles due to the ongoing service interruption. Individuals engaged in online businesses, freelancing, and digital services are particularly distressed, as their work has effectively come to a halt due to the internet shutdown. Many locals have indicated that their ability to communicate and perform essential daily tasks has been severely hampered.
Just last month, the Balochistan government temporarily suspended mobile data services in Quetta for a 24-hour period, attributing the action to a "peculiar law and order situation". A letter dated October 30 was sent to Pakistan's Ministry of Interior requesting the suspension of 3G/4G services in Quetta for 24 hours starting October 31, as reported by Dawn.
The letter highlighted that due to ongoing security threats, it was necessary to block 3G and 4G services in the district of Quetta.
Previously, in August, mobile data services were also suspended in Balochistan for security-related reasons. This led to widespread disruptions in education, online businesses, and media reporting throughout the region. Officials stated that the decision was based on recommendations from security agencies, particularly given the rising tensions surrounding National Day celebrations in Pakistan.
