Islamabad, Nov 3 (NationPress) A total of six police officers sustained injuries when gunmen targeted the vehicle of the North Waziristan District Police Officer (DPO) near Mamash Khel town in the Bannu district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, as reported by local media citing an official.
Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan confirmed that the shooting incident occurred on Miranshah road, which links Bannu with North Waziristan, according to Pakistan's leading daily Dawn. He mentioned, "Armed individuals opened fire at the vehicle of North Waziristan’s DPO," adding that fortunately, the DPO was unharmed in the attack.
Khan noted that the injured officers were promptly transported to Bannu District Headquarters Hospital. He also stated, "The unidentified assailants have fled to nearby areas, and a search operation is currently in progress to apprehend them."
Pakistan has experienced a surge in such violent incidents over the past year, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following the cessation of the ceasefire by the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the government in November 2022. Law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced an alarming increase in attacks in recent months.
On the preceding Sunday, an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) injured a Station House Officer and two other police personnel in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier, on November 1, police reported that a hand grenade was thrown at the National Highway Police (NHP) office in the main bazaar area of Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan, injuring a civilian named Muhammad Ramzan.
On October 27, eight individuals, including Levies Force personnel, were injured in a bomb blast targeting the convoy of Kech Deputy Commissioner Major (Retd.) Bashir Barech in the Turbat area of Balochistan.
The explosion was triggered by a remote-controlled device concealed on a motorcycle as the convoy traversed Press Club Road, according to Kech Senior Superintendent of Police Captain (Retd) Zohaib Mohsin. Although the Deputy Commissioner was unharmed, the blast severely damaged one vehicle in the convoy.
The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment, and police authorities reported that their conditions are stable. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are gathering evidence.
