Washington, Dec 6 (NationPress) African American artist and devoted admirer of India, Mary Millben, has labeled Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “the most influential and the most important leader currently in geopolitics,” applauding his management of the recent summit in New Delhi with Russian President Vladimir Putin and advocating for Washington to rethink its relationship with India.
In a discussion with IANS, Millben noted that the Modi-Putin dialogue highlighted a “deep alliance” between the two nations, which should be understood within the larger framework of India’s growing global influence. “From the perspective of Prime Minister Modi and President Putin, it was a great meeting,” she stated, emphasizing that this signifies a deep partnership akin to the one the United States has with India.
Millben remarked that PM Modi approached the meeting with his usual strategic finesse, especially regarding issues like energy and defense. “The Prime Minister was… diplomatic and strategic with his words,” she noted, in contrast to Putin’s more pronounced emphasis on oil and defense collaboration.
However, she pointed out that PM Modi’s actions were driven by national interests. “At the end of the day, the Prime Minister is going to do what is best for India… Every leader’s going to look at what is strategically best for their country,” she declared.
According to Millben, PM Modi’s prominence situates him at the forefront of today’s geopolitical landscape. “The Prime Minister… is right now, to date, the most influential and the most important leader in geopolitics. That’s irrefutable,” she asserted. “The Prime Minister has positioned India and certainly himself as the most important leader… in geopolitics,” she reiterated.
Having a close relationship with President Donald Trump and his team, Millben voiced strong criticism of the Trump administration’s recent attitude towards New Delhi. She described the approach to India regarding trade as “too aggressive” and even went “as far as to say… in a bullying approach.”
“India is our friend, our longest and strongest democratic partner,” she emphasized. “It is okay to go to the table with… positive and healthy discord while coming out still understanding good business with friends.” The repercussions of that “unfortunate aggression,” she stated, were evident in the deepening interactions among significant global powers, including India’s diplomacy with Russia and China.
Millben encouraged Trump to view the New Delhi summit as a pivotal opportunity for recalibration. “I hope that the Trump administration and the President will sit back and look at this meeting… with new eyes and a new perspective,” she remarked.
She went further to suggest that Trump should officially invite PM Modi to Washington. “My advice… after seeing this meeting… invite the Prime Minister to the United States… sit down, break bread, apologize, and repair the relationship,” she stated.
Such an action, she argued, would bolster US interests, especially concerning the quest for a Russia-Ukraine peace initiative. PM Modi, she claimed, is “the best leader and the only leader who can really be a mediator” among the essential stakeholders.
Millben also mentioned that global leaders are closely monitoring the US election timeline. “Every leader across the world knows the truth of our election seasons… November will be a big indicator as to how many of these leaders will move forward with their agendas,” she pointed out.
She expressed confidence in both President Trump and PM Modi, referring to them as longtime allies. “I really do believe that the President and Prime Minister… are friends, they have been friends,” she said.
Millben concluded that PM Modi’s recent diplomatic efforts highlight his global stature: “His leadership has been on full display in such a way that has solidified his legitimacy and certainly global confidence… He’s certainly outsmarted everybody, and I applaud him for that.”
The Modi-Putin summit in New Delhi marked a renewed phase of high-level engagement between India and Russia, whose strategic partnership includes defense, energy, space, and nuclear collaboration. India has maintained channels of communication with both Moscow and Kyiv since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, positioning itself as one of the few major nations with active dialogues with all parties.
Millben, who has performed for Indian and American leaders and has emerged as an informal cultural ambassador between the two democracies, has consistently advocated for stronger India–US relations and has frequently commended PM Modi’s leadership on international platforms.
