PM Modi Commences Historic Visit to Kuwait Today; Emphasis on Labor and Bilateral Relations

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to undertake a historic two-day journey to Kuwait starting Saturday, which is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years.

This trip, made at the request of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, highlights the deepening and expanding relations between the two nations.

The visit will kick off with a visit to an Indian labor camp, where PM Modi will engage with members of the Indian workforce to convey his solidarity and gratitude for their significant contributions to both countries. This act underscores the government's dedication to connecting with Indian citizens overseas.

India and Kuwait have a long-standing history of close and amicable relations, built on strong economic ties and robust people-to-people connections. India ranks among the top trading partners of Kuwait.

The Indian diaspora is the largest expatriate group in Kuwait. This visit will serve as a prime opportunity to enhance the multifaceted relations between India and Kuwait, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in anticipation of PM Modi's significant visit.

Upon arrival, PM Modi will receive a ceremonial guard of honor at the Bayan Palace, the Emir's residence. During his time there, the Prime Minister is expected to engage in high-level discussions with the Emir, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait.

Delegation-level discussions will center on critical topics such as trade, investment, energy cooperation, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

“This visit carries great importance, as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister since late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's visit in 1981,” remarked Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (CPV & OIA) at the Ministry of External Affairs.

Chatterjee emphasized the excellent political relations between India and Kuwait, highlighting the visit's potential to further bolster bilateral ties.

India and Kuwait maintain a strong trade partnership, with bilateral trade reaching $10.47 billion in the 2023-24 financial year. Kuwait stands as one of India's leading trading partners, especially in the energy sector.

PM Modi is also anticipated to engage with members of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, further reinforcing cultural and economic connections between the two nations.
