Kuala Lumpur, Oct 23 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit virtually later this month, a decision he confirmed during a conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The summit, along with related meetings, is scheduled from October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During their discussion, the two leaders explored avenues for enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various fields.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared insights from their exchange on social media, stating, "Last night, I had a conversation with my friend, the former Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to deliberate on advancing the Malaysia-India relationship to a more strategic and comprehensive level."

He underscored the significance of the India-Malaysia partnership, noting, "India is a crucial partner for Malaysia in trade and investment, as well as in technology, education, and security sectors."

Anwar also mentioned that due to the Diwali celebrations in India, Prime Minister Modi will attend the ASEAN Summit virtually. "I respect that decision and extend my Deepavali greetings to him and all the people of India," he remarked.

He reiterated Malaysia's dedication to strengthening ties with India and enhancing ASEAN-India cooperation to foster a more peaceful and prosperous region.

As Malaysia gears up to host the pivotal 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, the nation is poised to serve as the diplomatic hub of Southeast Asia during the event.

More than 30 heads of state and government, including leaders from ASEAN countries and key dialogue partners such as the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, are expected to convene at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Topics for discussion will include regional peace, economic resilience, and inclusive growth, aligned with Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme of 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.

The three-day summit will culminate on October 28 with a closing ceremony and the formal transfer of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines, marking the conclusion of a significant year for Malaysia in promoting regional collaboration and shared prosperity.
