Washington, Feb 13 (NationPress) The diaspora came together to extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival on Wednesday for discussions with re-elected US President Donald Trump. This visit aims to strengthen the burgeoning relationship between the two largest democracies.

Upon his Boeing 777 landing, a spirited group of Indians and supporters were present to greet him.

PM Modi expressed his gratitude on X, stating, "Despite the cold weather, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has welcomed me with a very special welcome. My gratitude to them."

Prior to his departure for Washington, PM Modi shared, "This visit will further cement India-USA friendship and boost ties in diverse sectors," via a post on X.

He fondly recalled his collaboration with President Trump during his first term, expressing confidence that their discussions would build on previous achievements.

Before arriving in the US, PM Modi was in France, where he co-hosted the Artificial Intelligence Summit alongside President Emmanuel Macron and inaugurated India's consulate general in Marseilles.

Following Trump's second term inauguration, PM Modi is the fourth international leader to engage with him officially, highlighting the geostrategic significance the US places on India.

The other leaders he has met thus far include Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Shigeru Ishiba of Japan, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Notably, these initial visits are not from Europe, indicating Trump's strategic priorities.

This marks PM Modi's tenth visit to the United States as Prime Minister and his fourth meeting with Trump.

His previous trip to the US was in September for the United Nations General Assembly and the Quad leaders' summit at former President Joe Biden's residence in Delaware.

Biden had also hosted PM Modi for a ceremonial state visit in 2024.

PM Modi's inaugural visit to the US as Prime Minister took place in 2014 during President Barack Obama's administration.

In his remarks before departing for the US, PM Modi stated, "Although this will be our first meeting following his historic electoral victory and inauguration in January, I have a very warm recollection of working together in his first term in building a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US."

"This visit will provide an opportunity to build upon our previous successes and create an agenda to further enhance our partnership across technology, trade, defence, energy, and supply chain resilience. We aim to collaborate for the mutual benefit of our citizens and shape a better future for the world," he concluded.
