President-elect of Namibia Promises Unity, Progress, and Accountability in Inaugural Address

Windhoek, Dec 6 (NationPress) Namibia's President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah spoke to the press at a South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) Party conference, celebrating her momentous election success.
The ruling party, SWAPO, achieved victories in both the presidential and National elections recently. During her address in the capital city of Windhoek, Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the importance of the elections, pointing out the impressive voter participation and the peaceful, orderly involvement of Namibians, showcasing the nation's democratic development, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
"We have just concluded a historic election characterised by political tolerance, resilience, and a strong commitment to democracy," she stated.
Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the efforts of Namibians, particularly the youth, who entrusted SWAPO with the mandate to govern, reaffirming the party's duty to uphold that trust.
The president-elect articulated her vision for governance, focusing on inclusivity, integrity, and accountability. "As we gear up for the responsibility of leading Namibia for the next five years, I must remind everyone within SWAPO’s leadership—from local sections to national levels—to intensify efforts to rekindle the affection of our people for SWAPO," she mentioned.
She asserted that SWAPO's strength is rooted in the Namibian populace, and their trust must not be compromised. "As you are aware, the majority of eligible voters were the youth or young people," she noted. "The youth of Namibia played a crucial role in granting the SWAPO party the mandate to lead the country for the next five years, and we owe them our gratitude."
She emphasized that the upcoming five years would address critical issues such as unemployment, inequality, and the need for economic transformation. "It will not be business as usual," she stated, urging a collaborative effort to meet SWAPO's obligations to the people.
"In light of this, I assure the people of Namibia that their faith in the SWAPO Party and myself will not be misplaced," she added.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also celebrated the contributions of women in leadership, expressing pride in being Namibia's first female president-elect and encouraging more women to seek leadership opportunities.
Furthermore, she extended congratulations to those elected to the National Assembly. "The SWAPO Party has brought political independence to the Namibian people and must ensure that economic independence is achieved in our lifetime," she stated.
Nandi-Ndaitwah called for unity among Namibians, regardless of political differences, and committed to combating corruption while diligently working to realize the party's election manifesto, aiming to build a brighter future for all Namibians.
Since Namibia's independence in 1990, SWAPO has held the position of the ruling party. To celebrate their victory, the party plans a celebration on Saturday, marking a new chapter in Namibia's journey.
