Qatari Prime Minister Engages with Syrian Delegation on Relations and Recent Developments

In Doha, on January 6, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held discussions with a prominent Syrian delegation led by interim Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani to address bilateral relations and the recent developments in Syria.
The delegation featured Syria's Minister of Defence, Marhaf Abu Qasra, and the Head of the Intelligence Service, Anas Khattab, as reported by the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
During the discussions, both parties evaluated their bilateral cooperation and explored avenues to enhance it, addressed current events in Syria, and discussed Qatar's humanitarian support, among other topics of shared interest, as stated by Xinhua news agency.
The Qatari Prime Minister reiterated his nation's steadfast commitment to supporting Syria's unity, sovereignty, and independence, emphasizing the significance of realizing the aspirations of the Syrian populace.
In response, Al-Shaibani commended Qatar's vital role in aiding the Syrian people, asserting that Qatar would be an essential collaborator in the peace process.
On December 21, 2024, Qatar reinstated its embassy in Damascus, Syria, becoming the second nation to do so after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. This event signified the first time in 13 years that Qatar's national flag was hoisted over the embassy premises.
A military alliance led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) initiated a significant offensive from northern Syria on November 27, 2024, seizing Damascus and toppling al-Assad's government within a mere 12 days.
On Friday, following a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia, Al-Shaibani announced via social media platform X his intention to travel to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan in the upcoming week, aiming to strengthen Syria's stability, security, and economic recovery.
