New York, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Republican Party has selected Saritha Komatireddy, a lawyer with a distinguished career in prosecuting terrorists, to contest against New York State Attorney General Letitia James, a prominent figure opposing President Donald Trump, in the upcoming elections.

Upon receiving her nomination at the Republican Party State Convention on Tuesday, she proclaimed, “From this moment until November, I will pursue the political case against Letitia James, and unlike her, I secure victories in my cases.”

James has been known for her aggressive legal actions against Trump and his associates, alleging fraud, which has led to a strained relationship.

During Trump’s presidency, his administration accused James of fraud related to a mortgage, but the case was dismissed when a grand jury opted not to indict her.

Komatireddy was nominated by Trump in 2020 to serve as a federal judge, but the nomination expired when the Senate failed to act on it before the end of his term.

With a decade of experience as a federal prosecutor, she focused on terrorism, cybercrime, transnational criminal enterprises, money laundering, and foreign public corruption, establishing a strong reputation by targeting leaders of Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and Mexican drug cartels.

The tragic events of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 inspired her to pursue a law career dedicated to combating terrorism.

“While I was tracking terrorists across the Middle East, I witnessed public safety deteriorating right here in New York,” she remarked.

In addition, she has held the position of chief of staff at the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Komatireddy earned both her bachelor’s and law degrees from Harvard University and is currently a law professor at Columbia University while also practicing at a law firm.

Earlier in her career, she served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his tenure on the federal appeals court in Washington.

The role of New York's attorney general is an elected position that commands significant national attention.

Her opponent, James, is celebrated by Democrats for her legal battles against Trump, achieving a multi-million-dollar judgment against him.

In a civil case while Trump was out of office in 2023, a judge found him guilty and imposed a penalty of $364 million, which subsequently increased to approximately $500 million.

Although an appeals court later deemed the penalty excessive, the guilty verdict remained intact.

James accused Trump and his associates of committing fraud by inflating the value of his assets, yet he had repaid the loans, and the lenders never challenged the valuation of his collateral.
