Rubio Terminates Green Cards Linked to Iranian Ties
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Washington, April 4 (NationPress) The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has officially rescinded the green cards of two individuals associated with the family of Qasem Soleimani. This action was taken after U.S. authorities detained them and initiated removal proceedings, according to the State Department.
Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were apprehended by federal agents following the termination of their lawful permanent resident status. They are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were enjoying a lavish lifestyle as green card holders in the United States,” Rubio stated on X.
“This week, I have revoked both Afshar and her daughter’s legal status, and they are now in ICE custody awaiting removal from the United States,” Rubio added.
The State Department noted that Soleimani Afshar is “a vocal supporter of the oppressive, terrorist government in Iran,” referencing both media reports and her social media activities.
Qasem Soleimani, a high-ranking commander of the IRGC, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Iraq back in 2020.
“While residing in the United States, she (Hamideh) advocated for Iranian regime propaganda, celebrated assaults on American military personnel and installations in the Middle East, praised the new Iranian Supreme Leader, labeled America as the ‘Great Satan,’ and expressed unwavering support for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps,” the State Department highlighted, referring to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by Washington.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that Afshar “pushed this propaganda for Iran’s terrorist regime while living a luxurious lifestyle in Los Angeles,” pointing to her frequent posts on her now-deleted Instagram account.
Rubio emphasized that the administration “will not permit our nation to serve as a sanctuary for foreign nationals who endorse anti-American terrorist regimes.”
The State Department also indicated that Afshar’s husband has been denied entry into the United States.
This action is part of a wider initiative launched earlier this month, during which Rubio revoked the legal status of Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani, the daughter of former Iranian official Ali Larijani, along with her husband, Seyed Kalantar Motamedi.
“Both Ardeshir-Larijani and Motamedi are no longer present in the United States and are prohibited from future entry,” the statement confirmed.
The department expressed gratitude to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE for their “ongoing partnership and collaboration in safeguarding Americans.”
