Moscow, Nov 2 (NationPress) Russia has issued a strong condemnation of the United States due to its excessive military actions during counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean, as stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
“We categorically reject the use of excessive military force in anti-drug operations,” Zakharova commented on her ministry’s website.
She highlighted that such actions breach both U.S. domestic laws and international regulations, a stance that has garnered acknowledgment from numerous countries and international entities, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, according to reports by Xinhua news agency.
“We reiterate our unwavering support for the Venezuelan leadership in their pursuit to uphold national sovereignty,” she added.
“We advocate for the maintenance of peace in the Latin American and Caribbean regions,” she stated.
Zakharova emphasized that measures must be implemented to de-escalate tensions and promote constructive resolutions to ongoing issues in accordance with international law.
A recent U.S. initiative in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific against what Washington describes as the illegal drug trade has targeted at least 14 vessels, resulting in 61 fatalities.
In recent months, the United States has significantly increased its military footprint in the Caribbean, deploying fighter jets, warships, and thousands of troops.
Earlier in May 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro formalized a strategic partnership agreement in Moscow.
