Moscow, Jan 3 (NationPress) A military operation conducted by the United States against Venezuela lacks any valid justification, as the South American nation does not present any threat to the US, stated Konstantin Kosachev, the Deputy Speaker of Russia's Federation Council, on Saturday.
"Venezuela poses no threats to the United States—neither in a military capacity, nor humanitarian, criminal, or drug-related contexts," Kosachev noted on his Telegram channel.
He added, "Thus, the ongoing military actions and the recent measures taken against Venezuela are fundamentally unjustified," as reported by Xinhua news agency. Kosachev emphasized that international order must adhere to established international law instead of being dictated by individual nations.
Kosachev indicated that international law has been overtly violated, asserting that "an order established in this manner cannot be accepted."
He also expressed his belief that a majority of nations would categorically reject the aggression towards Venezuela and voice their condemnation.
Earlier, Moscow labeled the US's actions as "deeply troubling" and deserving of condemnation.
"The reasons provided to rationalize such actions are indefensible. Ideological animosity has overshadowed practical business considerations and the desire to cultivate trustworthy and predictable relationships," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry in an official release.
Russia reiterated that all parties involved should pursue resolution through dialogue to prevent further escalation.
"Latin America should continue to be the peaceful region it declared itself to be in 2014. Venezuela must be allowed to chart its own course free from any harmful, especially military, external interference. We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and support the efforts of their Bolivarian leadership in safeguarding national interests and sovereignty," the statement concluded.
Moreover, Russia endorsed the Venezuelan authorities' and Latin American leaders' call for an urgent UN Security Council meeting.
