Russia Disrupts Ukrainian Schemes to Assassinate Senior Military Officials

Moscow, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has successfully intercepted numerous assassination attempts orchestrated by Ukrainian special services aimed at high-ranking Russian military officials, as stated in an official announcement.

Four Russian nationals associated with these assassination attempts against the officials and their families have been arrested, according to the FSB.

Among those arrested, one citizen, who was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services, traveled to Moscow in November 2024 with the intent to execute a terrorist attack by placing an explosive device disguised as a power bank under the vehicle of a senior defense official, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

The FSB press office reported, "It has been confirmed that a Russian citizen, recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services to execute a terrorist act, arrived in Moscow from Ukraine in November 2024 under the pretense of a deportee transiting through Moldova and Georgia."

Additionally, the FSB noted that another agent from Ukrainian intelligence was on their way to deliver a bomb disguised as a gift to a Defense Ministry official but was intercepted before reaching the target.

The validity of these claims cannot be independently verified.

Another individual from Moscow was reportedly surveilling senior defense ministry officials and their families. Two other Russian citizens were arrested for their roles in a scheme to deliver an explosive device masked as a folder filled with documents.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detainees, who face charges of illegal circulation of explosives and explosive devices, preparation of terrorist acts, and high treason, all of which carry life imprisonment sentences under Russian law.

Previously, on December 17, Lt General Igor Kirillov, head of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed outside his residence in Moscow when a bomb affixed to an electric scooter was detonated.

Various media outlets have reported that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was behind the attack, citing unnamed sources. The FSB has stated that they have apprehended a suspect in connection with the murder.
