Moscow, Feb 3 (NationPress) Temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures have been enacted at the Russian airports of Astrakhan, Kazan, Ulyanovsk, Nizhnekamsk, and Saratov, according to authorities on Monday.
The measures, which were implemented early Monday, aim to ensure the safety of civil aviation operations, stated Artem Korenyako, a spokesperson for the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, in a Telegram message.
Korenyako highlighted that flight safety remains the utmost priority, with aircraft crews, air traffic controllers, and airport personnel taking all necessary precautions.
This announcement comes in response to increased security concerns following reports of a drone strike in the Astrakhan area. Governor Igor Babushkin reported that Ukraine had launched a drone attack overnight targeting facilities in the region.
Babushkin noted, "Electronic warfare and air defense systems functioned as intended... There were no casualties," as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Additionally, Sergei Efremov, the Vice Governor of Russia's Primorye Territory and former Commander of the Tiger volunteer unit, was killed while returning from a combat mission, according to Regional Governor Oleg Kozhemyako.
Kozhemyako expressed, "It is a day of great sorrow for us... He was an exceptional individual with a compassionate heart, a determined leader, and a great organizer," in a video message on his Telegram channel.
Efremov had led the Tiger volunteer unit since its inception in 2022 and was appointed Vice Governor of Primorye in 2024, overseeing the region's domestic policies. He returned to the front lines following Ukraine's offensive in the Kursk region.
His death marks the highest-ranking Russian official casualty in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
