Moscow, Jan 24 (NationPress) Moscow's air defense systems were vigorously involved in countering a series of Ukrainian drone assaults during the early hours of Friday, as reported by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his Telegram channel.
Drone incursions took place across various areas surrounding Moscow, including the Kolomna and Ramensky urban districts, located southeast of the capital, where air defense units successfully intercepted the drones, Sobyanin noted.
Initial assessments suggest there were no major damages or casualties resulting from debris. Emergency response teams were swiftly dispatched to the impacted locations, he mentioned.
In the Podolsk urban district, two more drones were neutralized by air defense systems as they neared Moscow. Russian forces also eliminated a drone in the Troitsky Administrative District and another in the Shchyolkovo urban district, according to the mayor.
As a safety measure, temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures were enforced at Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports.
Earlier this week, Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, claimed that Ukraine's military had targeted a Russian aviation facility in the Smolensk region of western Russia.
Kovalenko stated on Tuesday that the facility is involved in the manufacturing of military aircraft, particularly the Su-25 attack aircraft, and also plays a role in the repair and maintenance of aviation machinery.
"This facility is closely linked to other entities within the Russian defense sector, providing components or cooperating to develop modern aviation systems," he remarked.
Kovalenko refrained from revealing the methods utilized in the assault.
Additionally, drones have reportedly attacked an oil depot located in Russia's western Voronezh region, as highlighted by the Ukrayinska Pravda media outlet.
