Russia's Naval Commander Declares Enhancements to Nuclear Maritime Forces

Moscow, Dec 12 (NationPress) Russia has upgraded the naval segment of the nation’s strategic nuclear capabilities, stated Navy Commander-in-Chief Alexander Moiseyev on Thursday at an international Arctic forum in Saint Petersburg.
Moiseyev indicated that the naval nuclear forces are stationed in the Arctic and the eastern area of Kamchatka, highlighting that their combat readiness is currently at its peak modernization level.
He remarked, "The presence of this group (of forces), which addresses essential global geopolitical tasks, should place responsibility on all participants in this region," as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
"This should inevitably enhance the sense of accountability for all, including us, of course... as well as those who aim to escalate tensions in the region," he added, asserting that the naval nuclear forces will continue to be a guarantor of Russia's national security on a global scale.
Moiseyev also noted that the United States and NATO member countries have increased their military presence in the Arctic, concentrating on training troops in challenging environments, expanding naval operations, and enhancing aerial and naval reconnaissance.
The alliance's rising military footprint in the Arctic further signifies its intention to curb Russia's influence in the region by "any means necessary," he stated.
Earlier this month, a fleet of the Russian navy, comprising four vessels, visited Qingdao, a port city in China, for a five-day friendly visit.
The Russian Navy has also conducted extensive military drills involving its Baltic, Northern, and Pacific Fleets, in addition to the Caspian Flotilla.
Approximately 300 surface ships, boats, submarines, and support vessels, around 50 aircraft, over 200 pieces of military and special equipment, and more than 20,000 military personnel and civilian staff from various units participated in one such naval exercise earlier this year.
