The visiting group, consisting of both governmental and parliamentary representatives, will embark on a two-day trip to Prague for the ceremony planned for Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
During their visit, they are expected to engage with the Czech prime minister and the president of the Senate to discuss opportunities for strengthening economic ties in the nuclear power sector and advanced industries, along with infrastructure projects, as stated by Yonhap news agency.
Key members of the South Korean delegation include Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun, Land Minister Park Sang-woo, and Rep. Lee Chul-gyu, who chairs the parliamentary committee on industry.
A consortium from South Korea, led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), is set to finalize an agreement with Elektrarna Dukovany II from the Czech Republic for the construction of two nuclear power units at the Dukovany plant, located approximately 200 kilometers south of Prague.
This deal, valued at around 26 trillion won (equivalent to US$18.8 billion), represents South Korea's first overseas nuclear project since 2009, when KHNP secured the contract for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates.
In July 2024, South Korea was designated as the preferred bidder for the Czech initiative.
