Seoul, Aug 4 (NationPress) A team of special counsel announced on Monday that they have called upon former Foreign Minister Park Jin for questioning regarding corruption allegations tied to former first lady Kim Keon Hee.
Park has been summoned as a reference witness at the office of special counsel Min Joong-ki at 2 p.m. to provide insights into the events surrounding former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife’s unexpected trip to Ukraine in July 2023.
The investigation led by Min's team is focusing on potential connections between the Ukraine visit, during which Yoon engaged in discussions about reconstruction initiatives with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and a significant rise in the stock price of the mid-sized construction firm Sambu Construction Co. at that time, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Furthermore, Park is anticipated to face inquiries regarding the Yoon administration's decision to boost the loan limit for Cambodia, amidst claims that the former first lady supported the Unification Church's involvement in official development assistance projects in exchange for luxury items like a necklace.
Former first lady Kim is also under scrutiny for allegedly attempting to secure the nomination of former prosecutor Kim Sang-min for the district previously held by Kim Young-sun ahead of the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The special counsel team has conducted raids on the residences and offices of both Kim Young-sun and Kim Sang-min, as well as questioning Myung twice last week.
