South Korea's Telecommunications Providers Enhance Traffic Surveillance Ahead of Impeachment Vote

Seoul, Dec 6 (NationPress) Operators of South Korea's leading network services have intensified their monitoring systems in preparation for a potential surge in online traffic ahead of the parliament's vote on a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, as stated by company officials on Friday.
Naver Corp., the operator of the country's largest internet portal, is taking measures to handle a likely traffic surge over the weekend and to ensure that users do not experience any inconveniences, according to a report from Yonhap news agency quoting the officials.
The National Assembly is scheduled to cast its vote on Yoon's impeachment motion on Saturday, holding him accountable for the unexpected declaration of martial law on Tuesday night, which was subsequently lifted by lawmakers just hours later.
As the nation grapples with the fallout from the incident, Naver's news page experienced record-high traffic immediately following the martial law announcement, causing temporary disruptions to some of its functions.
Kakao Corp., the operator of the internet portal Daum, has increased its server capacity to manage a potential spike in traffic over the weekend, as reported by its officials.
Leading mobile carriers are also preparing for possible service interruptions amid the ongoing political unrest.
An official from KT Corp. stated that they will fulfill their duties as the country's key telecommunications provider by monitoring network traffic and swiftly addressing any disruptions.
SK Telecom Co. is also set to closely monitor its services and implement measures to ensure stable communication in areas where large crowds are expected over the weekend, according to its representative.
