Sudanese Authorities Dispatch Humanitarian Aid Convoy to Support Returnees in Sinnar State and Omdurman City

Khartoum, Dec 24 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Sudanese authorities dispatched a humanitarian aid convoy aimed at assisting thousands of returnees in Sinnar State in southeastern Sudan and Omdurman city, located north of the capital, Khartoum.
Salwa Adam Benya, the humanitarian aid commissioner of Sudan, informed the Xinhua news agency from Port Sudan on Tuesday, stating, 'The Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) is continuously sending humanitarian support to those impacted by the conflict.'
She added, 'This convoy is on its way to Sinnar State, where there has been a notable influx of thousands of displaced individuals returning home following the restoration of security in many of the state's cities, particularly after the liberation of Singa city. A portion of the convoy will also head to Omdurman, which is experiencing a voluntary return of numerous displaced individuals.'
The convoy, which departed from Port Sudan, is transporting food provisions and shelter supplies, including tents and blankets, as mentioned by the commissioner.
According to government reports, over 2,000 families have returned to cities within Sinnar State after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) regained control over significant sections of the state.
By October, the number of people in need of humanitarian aid in Sudan had surged to 28.9 million, with 16.9 million of those requiring life-saving assistance, as reported by the HAC.
On November 23, the SAF successfully recaptured Singa, the capital city of Sinnar State, which had been under the control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for several months following the conflict between the SAF and the RSF that erupted in mid-April 2023.
Khalid Aleisir, the Sudanese minister of culture and information, remarked on November 23, 'Singa city has returned to the homeland... The time for justice and accountability will arrive, and those involved in these crimes will face consequences.'
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a severe conflict between the SAF and the RSF. The most recent data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project indicates that this deadly conflict has led to more than 28,700 fatalities and has displaced over 14 million individuals, both internally and externally.
