New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "friend", former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed on Wednesday that it is "always thrilling" to hear PM Modi's insights for India's future.
During a meeting with PM Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday evening, Sunak and his family engaged in an extensive discussion covering various topics.
PM Modi remarked that Sunak is a great friend of India and is dedicated to enhancing India-UK relations.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi stated, "It was a pleasure to meet former UK PM, Mr. Rishi Sunak and his family! We had an enriching conversation on numerous topics. Mr. Sunak is a great friend of India and is committed to fostering stronger India-UK ties."
Responding to PM Modi's message on Wednesday, the former UK Prime Minister emphasized his strong camaraderie with the Indian leader and PM Modi's unwavering support for fortifying India-UK relations.
"It was wonderful to reconnect with my friend Narendra Modi. Thank you for the warm welcome extended to my family as well! It’s always exciting to hear your vision for India, and it’s vital that the UK-India partnership continues to flourish," Sunak wrote on X.
Having Indian ancestry from Punjab and born in Southampton, Sunak is noted as the first individual of Indian descent to have served as the UK Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024.
Sunak, who takes pride in his Indian heritage, advocated for robust ties with India in areas such as economy, security, and science, highlighting collaborations in finance, technology, healthcare, and education, including the establishment of the FinTech Bridge linking London and Mumbai.
As the Conservative Party leader faced defeat in the UK general election in July 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged Rishi Sunak's role in strengthening ties between the two countries during his term.

In May 2024, while still serving as Prime Minister, he praised India's emergence as an 'economic superpower', stating that rapidly growing economies like India, Indonesia, and Nigeria are significantly transforming the global economic landscape.
