New Delhi, Feb 17 (NationPress) Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is currently in India with his family and had a meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday.
“It was a pleasure to meet Rishi Sunak in Delhi today. I value his unwavering support for enhancing India-UK relations,” EAM Jaishankar shared on X.
Sunak, who has Indian heritage as he was born to Indian parents in Southampton and has roots in Punjab, made history as the first individual of Indian descent to hold the position of UK Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024.
The British Indian politician referred to India as an “indispensable partner” for the UK in all areas of bilateral collaboration.
During his time in office, which concluded in July 2024, several significant agreements, including the UK-India Roadmap 2030 and the Enhanced Trade Partnership, were established.
Sunak, proud of his Indian heritage, advocated for strong connections with India in economic, security, and scientific fields. Both nations worked together in various sectors, such as finance, technology, healthcare, and education, and established the FinTech Bridge linking London and Mumbai.
Following his party's loss in the UK general election in July 2024, Prime Minister Modi praised Sunak's efforts to strengthen the ties between the two countries during his tenure.
