New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his family had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday. The two leaders engaged in a delightful discussion on a variety of topics.

PM Modi expressed that Sunak is a remarkable friend of India and is dedicated to enhancing the India-UK relationship.

On social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared, “It was a pleasure to meet former UK PM, Mr. Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Mr. Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties.”

Earlier that day, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman engaged with Rishi Sunak to discuss potential new pathways for strengthening market-based financial connections and boosting economic growth.

The Finance Minister highlighted the significance of utilizing the Commonwealth to bring shared interests to the G7 agenda, benefiting the Global South.

Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty and daughters Krishna and Anoushka, also visited Parliament House on Tuesday. They were joined by Sudha Murthy, a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.

Sunak and his family were welcomed by Secretary General, Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, with Secretary General, Rajya Sabha, P C Mody also in attendance.

During their exploration of the Parliament House Complex, the Sunak family admired its architectural beauty, visiting significant areas such as the Galleries, Chambers, Constitution Hall, and Samvidhan Sadan.

While in India, Rishi Sunak met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday.

EAM Jaishankar remarked, “Nice to meet former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Delhi today. Appreciate his constant support for strengthening India-UK relations,” as he posted on X.

Having been born to Indian parents in Southampton with ancestral ties to Punjab, Sunak made history as the first individual of Indian descent to serve as the UK Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024.

The British Indian leader characterized India as an indispensable partner of the UK in all areas of bilateral cooperation.

This visit is part of Sunak’s recent engagements in India, which included a family visit to the Taj Mahal on February 15, 2025.
