United Nations, Dec 9 (NationPress) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the destiny of Syria is fundamentally a decision for the Syrian people to make, noting that substantial efforts are necessary to achieve a systematic political transition towards reformed institutions.
On Sunday, the UN chief reiterated his plea for calm and the avoidance of violence during this sensitive period, emphasizing the need to uphold the rights of all Syrians, without exception.
The sanctity of diplomatic and consular missions and personnel must be honored in all circumstances as per international law, as reported by Xinhua.
We require the backing of the international community to guarantee that any political transition is both inclusive and comprehensive, addressing the legitimate aspirations of the diverse Syrian populace. The sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria must be restored,” asserted Guterres.
The United Nations will honor the memories of those who have suffered the most in this conflict. “We remain dedicated to assisting Syrians in constructing a nation where reconciliation, justice, freedom, and prosperity are realities shared by all. This is the path toward sustainable peace in Syria,” he concluded.
