In Chakwal, a passenger bus traveling from Islamabad to Lahore fell into a ditch on the motorway near Dhok Sial, resulting in the deaths of nine people and injuries to 18 others, as reported by The News International.
A police spokesperson indicated that the accident was caused by the bus driver's negligence. The injured individuals were transported to Kallar Kahar Trauma Centre and DHQ Hospital for medical attention.
The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that all necessary medical support was being provided to the injured, with some being transferred to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for further care. According to the police, the bus driver fled the scene, prompting a search operation for his apprehension. An accident report is being prepared based on a complaint filed by the Motorway Police.
In a separate incident, a passenger coach en route from Karachi to Hyderabad collided with a truck on the M-9 Motorway in Jamshoro, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to eight others, including women and children, as reported by rescuers. Both the truck driver and the coach conductor were among the deceased.
Accidents involving passenger buses on Pakistan's highways are unfortunately common, often attributed to factors such as driver negligence, excessive speed, and adverse road or weather conditions. Just days prior, on July 20, nine individuals died and over 40 others were injured in a series of accidents in Sindh when two buses overturned in Thatta and Khairpur.
In one incident, six people were killed, and over 20 were hurt when a bus carrying picnickers from Karachi to Keenjhar Lake overturned due to speeding. In another incident, three fatalities and more than 25 injuries occurred when a passenger bus traveling from Karachi to Mansehra overturned on the National Highway near Tando Masti in Khairpur.
