Key Takeaways
Islamabad, April 9 (NationPress) - In a tragic turn of events, three individuals lost their lives and 14 others sustained injuries due to rain-triggered incidents in the districts of Peshawar, Mohmand, and Nowshera in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as reported by local media on Thursday.
Bilal Ahmad Faizi, a spokesman for Rescue 1122, confirmed that a child was among the deceased, with two others injured following a roof collapse in the Mattani area of Peshawar, according to the prominent daily, Dawn. The injured were promptly transported to a medical facility. Additionally, several individuals found themselves stranded in the rainwater accumulation in the Mian Gujjar and Islamabad Korona regions.
Faizi also reported that in the Rahimabad area of Nowshera, three family members were injured when their roof collapsed, leading to the hospitalization of two children and a woman at Pabbi hospital.
In Mohmand tribal district, two fatalities and nine injuries occurred due to rain-related incidents. A young girl died when a room in her residence collapsed in the Shaheed Banda area. Similarly, five others were hurt in a roof collapse in the Karari region of Ekkaghund tehsil. In another incident, a man lost his life when a room collapsed under the weight of heavy rainfall in the Sra Khawa area of Baizai subdivision.
Rescue officials reported that four individuals were injured in a roof collapse in the Dawezai Dawat Kor area of tehsil Pindiali in Mohmand district on Wednesday.
The Mohmand tribal district has witnessed unprecedented rainfall and destruction, with an official stating that rainfall reached 151 millimeters in 2026, exceeding the previous record of 134mm set in 2013. The continuous downpour has inundated low-lying areas and swollen seasonal streams, as reported by Dawn.
Displacement has affected numerous individuals as hundreds of houses and boundary walls have been either destroyed or damaged. Roads across various tehsils have been washed away, isolating communities and hampering rescue operations.
Moreover, livestock casualties and destruction of standing crops due to the rain have resulted in significant financial losses for many residents, according to the report.
On March 5, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that at least 45 individuals had died and 105 others were injured following heavy rains that caused roof and wall collapses in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since late March.
In its latest findings, the PDMA noted that the casualties stemmed from roof and wall collapses during the intense rainfall across multiple districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PDMA confirmed that the deceased included 23 children, 17 men, and five women, while the injured comprised 45 men, 16 women, and 44 children, as reported by Pakistan's leading media outlet, Geo News.
In total, 442 houses were affected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 382 sustaining partial damage and 60 being completely destroyed.
