Moscow, Aug 7 (NationPress) Russia and the United States have reached a consensus for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming days, as announced by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, during a briefing in Moscow on Thursday.
During his conversation with journalists, Ushakov indicated that at the behest of the US, a meeting is set to take place soon. He mentioned that officials from both Russia and the US are currently organizing this significant summit, according to reports from TASS, a state-owned Russian news agency.
"At the suggestion of the American side, we have reached a preliminary agreement to hold a high-level bilateral meeting shortly," Ushakov stated.
He further pointed out that the next week has been earmarked as a potential timeframe for the Trump-Putin meeting. "However, the involved parties are beginning preparations for this crucial meeting, making it challenging to determine the exact duration needed for preparation. The possibility of hosting the meeting next week is being viewed positively," he noted.
Ushakov confirmed that the meeting's location has already been decided, but the Kremlin will disclose the specifics about the venue "in due course."
On the previous day, Putin engaged with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow, with Trump describing their discussions as "very productive, achieving significant progress."
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump remarked, "My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. We have made great progress! I subsequently briefed several of our European allies. There is a consensus that this war must conclude, and we will pursue that aim in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you for your attention!"
Earlier, Ushakov mentioned that Putin met with Witkoff in the morning, and they had a fruitful and constructive dialogue. He claimed that Russia has sent certain signals regarding the Ukraine situation and has received responses from Trump.
On July 14, Trump established a 50-day deadline, emphasizing the imposition of 100% tariffs on Moscow and its trade allies if a peace agreement with Ukraine was not secured. On July 29, the US President shortened this deadline to just 10 days. Recently, senior US diplomat John Kelley informed the United Nations Security Council that Trump aims to finalize a deal to end the war by August 8.
