New Delhi, Oct 30 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump has consistently conveyed his desire to put an end to conflicts worldwide.

During his recent tour of Asia, he seemed determined to call a truce in the tariff dispute he is often accused of starting.

Much like his efforts to resolve armed conflicts, which have seen varying degrees of success, President Trump appears to be paving the way for a truce, if not entirely dispelling the uncertainties surrounding global trade relations.

Trump, who has recently softened his approach towards India after implementing a 25% 'reciprocal tariff' and an additional 25% penalty for purchasing Russian oil, mentioned on Wednesday that he intends to initiate a 'trade deal with India.'

This marks the first occasion where the US President has explicitly shared his intentions regarding the revival of discussions for a bilateral trade agreement with New Delhi.

"I am working on a trade deal with India and I hold great respect and affection... as you know... for Prime Minister Modi... we share a strong relationship," Trump stated in Gyeongju, South Korea, after arriving from Japan during his three-nation tour, which also included Malaysia.

He praised Prime Minister Modi, describing him as "the most pleasant-looking individual... He resembles someone you would want as your father..."

Shortly thereafter, he engaged in discussions with China's Premier Xi Jinping on Thursday, exploring ways to mitigate tensions arising from the trade feud between the world's two largest economies.

The Ministry of Commerce in China released details of the negotiations, while Trump shared insights from the meeting with journalists on board Air Force One.

The China Daily, a state-controlled publication, emphasized the camaraderie between the two leaders during their first face-to-face meeting since Trump began his second term.

"President Xi Jinping highlighted the importance of ensuring steady progress in China-US relations during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Busan, South Korea, on Thursday," the report noted.

It added that Xi remarked, "Under our mutual guidance, China-US relations have remained relatively stable," further indicating, "Trump referred to Xi as 'very, very distinguished and respected' and expressed it was his honor 'to be with a friend of mine truly for a long time.'"

According to BBC, "This was the first in-person interaction between the two leaders since 2019, during the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan," and added, "The two world leaders exchanged handshakes and accolades before proceeding to a private conversation lasting two hours. Trump hailed the meeting with Xi as 'a significant success.'"

CNN reported that the US President suggested that both sides have reached an understanding on 'almost everything,' indicating that overall tariffs on Chinese products would decrease from 57% to 47% due to advancements on issues including soybean imports, rare earths, and fentanyl during the discussions.

He also mentioned plans to visit Beijing in April.
